How to serve champagne
A precise ritual to elevate the tasting experience
From the ideal serving temperature to the choice of glass and the perfect pour, every detail influences how champagne expresses its aromas, freshness and elegance.
Sébastien Lebon, Host of Maison Belle Epoque, shares his expert advice on serving Perrier-Jouët champagne with precision and elegance.

Choosing the right glass
Offering a memorable tasting experience for your guests begins before they walk through the door. The choice of glassware, in particular, impacts how they will appreciate the colour and perceive aromas.
A tulip-shaped champagne glass or a fine white wine glass allows the aromas to develop while preserving the elegance of the bubbles.

The Perfect Temperature
Champagne is a delicate wine and certain criteria need to be respected to enjoy it under optimal tasting conditions.
It is recommended to never freeze champagne. This can be dangerous and also damage the champagne, since a sudden change in temperature will irrevocably alter the wine’s aromas.

Opening the bottle
Firstly, you need to prepare the bottle: dry it with a clean cloth, remove the foil and loosen the wire cage while maintaining the cap with your thumb.
To open a bottle of champagne as elegantly as possible, simply tilt it at a 45° angle then gently turn the bottle while firmly holding the cork. It will emit a gentle “popping” sound which is sure to delight your guests.

The Art of serving champagne
Serve with precision and elegance by holding the bottle at its base, keeping the label visible to your guests.
Pour slowly into a slightly tilted glass, beginning with a small amount to let the mousse develop gently.
Continue pouring until the wine reaches the widest part of the glass, ensuring a delicate, persistent effervescence and allowing the champagne’s aromas to fully unfold.
