EDEN MIAMI 2018 December 5-6

Maison Perrier-Jouët and Design Miami/ partnered up in 2012 to infuse life with contemporary creation by giving up-and-coming artists and designers visibility on an international platform. As part of this partnership, Maison Perrier-Jouët commissions creative talents for their capacity to express the cultural heritage of the House through the prism of the 21st century, as well as their own unique identity.

Maison Perrier-Jouët fully embraces the creative energy that fills the city during Design Miami/. As well as presenting a new artist collaboration as part of the fair every year for the past seven years, the House hosts a selection of vibrant events. Last year, the spectacular 1111 Lincoln Road car park was transformed into an extravagant garden, evoking Art of the Wild - the universe as seen by the House to re-enchant the everyday with unbridled nature.

This year’s commission went to British designer Bethan Laura Wood, whose creation – HyperNature –  is an exuberant embodiment of Art of the Wild. Taking the shape of a tree, it is an immersive, whimsical champagne experience that is free in form, intense in color and radiant by its presence. Get initiated into the unexpected and joyful spirit of Art of the Wild with the HyperNature takeover of the Collectors Lounge at Design Miami/ and EDEN by Perrier-Jouët on December 5th and 6th.

Bethan Laura Wood

Blurring the boundaries between art and design, Bethan Laura Wood’s practice establishes a dialogue between her work, the audience and the wider world. Through her travels, she has observed ‘those crossover spaces between nature and manmade’, which she draws on to enrich her palettes, structure atypical forms and refine her understanding of the cultural connotations of materials.

Wood has designed a tree for the Maison named HyperNature, whose curves, petals and colors were inspired by a journey to Champagne several months ago. While visiting the Maison Belle Epoque, the family home of Maison Perrier-Jouët in Epernay, the designer was immersed in Art Nouveau. Her palette of references was enriched by the floral universe of the artistic movement present in every detail of the house, like the arched, wooden door frame designed by Hector Guimard, the tones of the stained-glass windows and the emblematic anemone motif designed by Emile Gallé for the Maison in 1902.
