Arts Salon 2014 Prize Winner Laura Youngson Coll
Champagne House Perrier-Jouët is proud to announce the solo exhibition of Laura Youngson Coll, second winner of the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Prize, to take place in London at Contemporary Applied Arts, from 25 June – 31 August 2014.
Laura’s exhibition will take place at Contemporary Applied Arts, London’s original multi-disciplinary applied arts gallery which champions and promotes only the very best of British craft. It is a unique membership organisation. Members range from well-established artist makers to graduates from leading applied arts courses. Their work is showcased in the gallery and exhibition space in Southwark Street. Laura’s works will remain available to buy over the next 3 years from CAA. Laura is a contemporary maker in leather and vellum, based in London, who was selected by Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon members from a shortlist of 10 candidates for her fulfilment of the criteria: To evoke a contemporary interpretation of the ethos of
the Champagne House Perrier-Jouët, reflecting its Art Nouveau heritage, with work inspired by natural forms and organic structures. Laura is inspired by the natural world.Techniques of on-laying, paring and manipulating saturated leather are utilised, disengaged from their familiar function within book binding and employed within intricate sculptural works. Chairman of the Perrier-Jouët Arts Salon Tony Chambers, Editor-In-Chief, Wallpaper* commented; “Laura Youngson Coll's work is outstanding and a fresh, contemporary interpretation of the Perrier-Jouët Art Nouveau spirit.” The Exhibition will run from 25th June to 31st August at Contemporary Applied Arts, 89 Southwark Street, London SE1 0HX
