Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé champagne is the House’s deliciously unexpected interpretation of the genre. A rare and precious vintage rosé champagne whose demure, pale apricot hue belies its extravagantly sensual personality, which is characterised by alluring notes of white flowers and small red fruit.

 

 

AN UNCONVENTIONAL ROSÉ

True to the free, bohemian spirit of Maison Perrier-Jouët, Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé is a resolutely original champagne which combines rarity with the ability to surprise. Crafted only in exceptional years and produced in limited quantities, it typically blends Pinot Noir from Ay, Mailly, Verzy and Rilly with Chardonnay from the finest terroirs in Cramant, Avize and Le Mesnil. The richness of Pinot Noir is complemented by the floral elegance of Chardonnay, which provides the touch of finesse characteristic of Maison Perrier-Jouët. Finally, Pinot Meunier grapes from Dizy contribute their rounded, aromatic character. The pale apricot bloom so distinctive of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé is created by the addition of a small proportion (11%) of Pinot Noir red wines. These wines are produced by macerating the white juice of Pinot Noir grapes on their red skins.

THE YEAR

After a mild winter, spring frost and hail caused damage to the vineyards. By mid-July, summer had arrived in earnest, with dry heat and ample sunshine to bring grapes to perfect maturity across all crus. The rain returned at the end of September, just as the harvest began. Although marked by difficult weather conditions, 2012 nevertheless produced wine with promise. Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque Rosé 2012 is a cuvée characterised by the aromatic richness and freshness of Chardonnay, balanced out by frank, lush Pinot Noir and fruity Meunier grapes.

 

THE EYE

A pale pink robe with coppery reflections and fine bubbles.

 

THE NOSE

Pronounced aromas of flowers ¬– rose and peony – small red fruits – wild strawberries and raspberry – and pink grapefruit.

 

THE PALATE

A frank attack followed by a beautiful roundness, with a long, silken finish. A particularly balanced wine.
