ART OF VINTAGE COLLECTION RELEASED IN THE UK
For the first time in its 200-year history Champagne house Perrier-Jouët has released a limited number of mature Belle Epoque vintage champagnes as part of the new Art of Vintage Collection. This extraordinary, classic compilation includes three rare, aged champagnes which have been stored in perfect condition in the Chef de Cave’s private cellars at Perrier-Jouët for up to 25 years. With only 12 bottles of each vintage available in the UK, exclusivity is guaranteed.
True works of art in their own right, each bottle within the Collection was disgorged when the vintage was originally released to market. This extended bottle maturation lends the wines a unique richness on the nose and palate that is highly sought-after by international champagne connoisseurs. Historically disgorged mature vintage champagnes are extremely rare, traditionally available only at international wine auctions. Perrier-Jouët is the first Champagne House to release a limited edition collection of this kind.
Perrier-Jouët’s prestige cuvée Belle Epoque remains the ultimate expression of the art of vintage, hallmarked by the finest chardonnays in the Côte des Blancs. Its freshness, elegance and subtle floral notes closely mirror the spray of white anemones adorning the bottle created by Emile Gallé in 1902. Reaching out to us magnificently across the years, the 1996, 1985 and 1982 vintages demonstrate the consistency and ageing potential of the unique Perrier-Jouët style acknowledged for the diamond-cut aromas of its floral elegance.
Hervé Deschamps comments: “I chose the 1996, 1985 and 1982 for the Art of Vintage Collection because they exemplify the Perrier-Jouët house style and are drinking beautifully now. Despite the extraordinary climatic challenges of the year, the 1996 is the most astonishing Perrier-Jouët vintage I have ever created.
This complex wine is full of life and abundant freshness. By contrast the 1985 vintage is more generous on the palate with great finesse whilst the 1982 is beautifully opulent - paying homage to the aromatic richness of the top Chardonnays of Cramant and Avize.”
As a tribute to these sleeping beauties, each vintage is presented in an authentic antique-white wooden gift box with a finely engraved metallic plate scripted with the vintage. The individual bottle carries a beautiful gold script label to emphasise the vintage year and the back label has been personally signed by Hervé Deschamps.
In 200 years, Perrier-Jouët has had just seven cellar masters, each one trained by their predecessor, like craftsmen who jealously pass on the secret of their art from father to son. Current guardian of this precious knowledge since 1993, Hervé Deschamps spent ten years working with his mentor André Baveret in order to master the subtleties of Nicolas Perrier’s original floral wine signature style. Sharing the philosophy of the master craftsman as artist, Hervé Deschamps sees each Cuvée as a one-off, working on his blends using a highly original approach guided by intuition as well as expertise, giving each wine the charm, elegance and finesse that characterises the Perrier-Jouët style.
