Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs Characteristics

Should Perrier-Jouët wines be compared to a collection of precious jewels, the Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs cuvee would be the ultimate piece, set with the purest rarest diamonds, cut to perfection.

The secret of the Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs cuvee is that it is composed exclusively from chardonnay grown on two legendary plots from Cramant — Bourons-Leroy and Bourons du Midi — so miraculously well suited to this grape variety. The purity of the chalky soil, the south south-east aspect and the position, halfway up the hillside, ensuring maximum sunlight, allow chardonnay to acquire a unique character and give the wines the floral aromatic richness, so typical of the Perrier-Jouët style.

The bottle decorated with anemones was created in 1902 by Emile Gallé, one of the greatest figures of the Art Nouveau movement, and it has become the emblem of Perrier-Jouët. The transparent glass lends it a luminous beauty.

Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2000

One vintage, one terroir, one grape variety and just two plots, Bourons-Leroy and Bourons du Midi, nestling at the heart of the Cramant Grand Cru in the Côte des Blancs, setting the scene for Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2000. Perfect conditions for creating this unique wine: pure chalk soil halfway up the hillside, facing south south-east.

Warm flowers, acacia, candied citrus, nectarine, honey, vanilla, nougat. Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2000 is full of delicate, smooth and aromas.

A silky, fleshy wine, that is floral and stylish, subtle and elegant, with a wide range of aromas, to be enjoyed on its own or with seafood-oysters, caviar, cream of sea urchin soup. The quintessence of the House terroir.

Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2002

Cellar master Hervé Deschamps only produces a vintage when the Cramant Chardonnays of a particular harvest are genuinely exceptional, and 2002 was one such year.

The blending is like the precision-setting of a fine jewel, exalting the brilliance of these outstanding chardonnays. “The challenge is to take the same cru, grown on two plots just a few meters apart, and express both the quintessence of the Perrier-Jouët vineyards and the character of that year”.

The wine has laid down for more than 8 years, to allow its aromas to merge and create a balanced, yet contrasting whole.

The 2002 vintage has a surprising aromatic complexity.

A succession of endlessly renewed flavours: white flowers, citrus, tropical fruits... and absolute delicacy and precision. The texture is supple, full and round — and as fine as silken lace...

Fresh, rich and lively, like the very best of wines.
