A 200-Year Story

THE LEGACY OF A FAMILY SPIRIT SINCE 1811

In 1811, Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose Adélaide Jouët founded the champagne House Perrier-Jouët, on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay.

For seven generations, those who have managed the company have pursued the same goal, perpetuating the spirit of its founders.

A PASSION FOR QUALITY

Guided by its obsession for excellence, Perrier-Jouët was one of the first champagne Houses to stamp the cork of its wines and add the initials PJ, as proof of their authenticity.

On several occasions it has even opted to cancel the production of its champagne on the grounds that the harvest was not of sufficient quality, consistently valuing quality over volume.

THE FINEST OF CHAMPAGNE VINEYARDS
on the Cru scale.

The Perrier family, which had owned vines in Champagne since the 18th century, expanded and improved its vineyards by carefully selecting the best plots, giving pride of place to the noble Chardonnays, which characterize the Perrier-Jouët style. Today its vineyard is close to perfection, as evidenced by the assessment criteria of the Champagne AOC.

THE FIVE MAIN CRUS OF CHAMPAGNE'S "MAGIC TRIANGLE"

Perrier-Jouët's Chardonnays, the House's predominant grapes, come from the best plots on the Côte des Blancs, in the Cramant and Avize Grands Crus.

The Pinot Noirs from the Mailly Grand Cru on the south of the Montagne de Reims are fresh and delicate.

The Pinot Noirs from the Aÿ Grand Cru and the Pinot Meuniers from the Dizy Premier Cru in the Vallée de la Marne confer generosity, charm and elegance.

Perrier-Jouët owns the best Chardonnay plots on the whole Côte des Blancs, ideally situated in Cramant. These plots represent the quintessence of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard.

The position halfway up the hillside and the south south-east exposure ensuring maximum sunlight confer on the Chardonnay…

…a unique character and give the wine the floral aromatic richness so typical of the Perrier-Jouët style.

ONLY 7 CELLAR MASTERS IN 200 YEARS

For 200 years, just seven Cellar Masters passed on the secret of their art, which is preciously safeguarded in their cellar books.

Hervé Deschamps perpetuates this heritage and cultivates the distinctive style of the Perrier-Jouët wines, which he fashions with pinpoint precision.

Each cru is identified, selected and crafted with the utmost care, to create diamond-cut wines that reflect the richness of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard.

THE ART OF TAILOR-MADE CHAMPAGNE

In 1856, Perrier-Jouët created the first brut champagne in response to the taste of British connoisseurs.

With the Cuvée "Belle Epoque By & For", Perrier-Jouët launched the first tailor-made champagne. A unique and unrivalled experience in the heart of...

...the Perrier-Jouët House with Cellar Master Hervé Deschamps, creating a made-to-measure champagne using the most precious of the House wines, Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs 2000.

EXPERTISE RECOGNISED AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

In 1861, Queen Victoria appointed Perrier-Jouët official supplier to the British crown; orders then followed from the courts of Sweden, Napoleon III and the Empress of Russia Marie of Hesse.

Some cuvées became legendary, such as the PJ 1874 champagne, which fetched prices never yet matched at an auction at Christie’s in 1888.

FAVOURITE CHAMPAGNE OF PRINCESS GRACE KELLY

A SENSE OF THE ARTISTIC, INITIATED BY EMILE GALLÉ
by Nature.

In 1902, Emile Gallé, master glassmaker from the Ecole de Nancy and leading light of the Art Nouveau movement, created the anemone that still adorns the Belle Epoque bottle today.

Inspired by Gallé’s passion for nature and Japanese art, the enamelled anemone motif echoes the floral bouquet of the House cuvée.

This creation derives from Art Nouveau, an artistic movement characterized by colours, rhythms and embellishments inspired by nature and organic forms.

A total art, expressed in furniture, the graphic arts, jewellery and architecture, with one underlying principle: to exalt the day-to-day.

THE PERRIER-JOUËT ART DE VIVRE

Oscar Wilde, the renowned aesthete and devoted Perrier-Jouët connoisseur, perfectly expressed the House’s philosophy when he wrote: "Beauty is a form of genius"

Combining pleasure with optimism, extravagance with lightness, the Belle Époque was a period of social and cultural emancipation marked by the artistic movement of Art Nouveau. The Cuvée Belle Epoque is a tribute to this philosophy, whose values it continues to embody today.

An Art de vivre that is the very essence of the Muse and Dandy evenings organised by Perrier-Jouët, with the contemporary dandy David Piper as ambassador.
